I had to call the council today to sort out building control for a bow front window i am about to make . The costs to get building controll involved go in bands from £0 - £5000 and £5000 upwards . The lady on the phone said oh one window will be over the £5000 mark Anyhow the job is for a friend of a friend and we have been out for a few beers etc so as i picked up a deposit today he showed me some of the other quotes he had been sent . £3500 + VAT + Glass Thats just short of 5k , over double what i am charging for quite a simple job .

That wouldn't be far off of what we were quoted for a double-glazed bay window in 'hardwood' (iroko) (although we wanted 2 so over 10k). In the end UPVC was about £6k for the two, fitted unfinished.

My son did the casings and interior woodwork in the living room, I'm about to do a bedroom. It knocked a lot off the price.
