Thinking about getting a new biscuit jointer - was leaning towards the Mafell but it's quite pricey now. The AEG looks remarkably similar and can be had quite a bit cheaper. Anybody used one?

personally i would compare the mafell to a slightly lower priced festo, with the same quality. whereas i actually have a very old aeg, and for the occassions i use it is still good and strong, like so many tools from aeg, the basic concept is fine you just wonder whether you are going to get any customer support they have been in and out of the uk market so often in the last 10 years. mine was cheap and does not compare with the mafell in quality. things is what are you looking to do, and how much money do you have??? always go for the best, and i think from having seen both the mafell would be a better overall buy unless you move up to the lamello better extraction on the mafell i think. paul

Thanks for the replies folks - oops never got back again, having got too involved in another project! Said project called for a morticer so the biscuit jointer was put on hold But FYI I ended up with one of these: www.axminster.co.uk/product-Axminster-AW16BMST-Bench-Morticer-577195.htmNot quite as hefty as the one I used in night school but still amazing value for money. The table travels in 2 dimensions which is very useful and although it was hard work cutting 16mm mortices (I suspect that more expensive chisels would have helped) it still did them and has now easily paid for itself. Anyway, if anyone has any queries about it, let me know. Just got to start saving again for the jointer...
