Just got a new (to me) Bandsaw and in the destructions it says not to de-tension blade unless the machine is going to be left unused for an extended period. Reason it gives is that constantly tensioning and de-tensioning unnecessarily stresses the steel casing! Not too sure what they mean by 'extended period', rest of the day, a week, month? What do you chaps do?

Every day. Some modern bandsaws have a detensioning switch

I dont b other but then as my bandsaw is small compared to some it doesnt really make alot of differance . I dont really need to run my blades in either . According to Dragon blades .

I must admit I never bother to de-tension my bandsaw (startrite 351) and have never had a problem it does get used most days though especilally in this cold weather for cutting up firewood.

Bandsaw for fire wood i use the chop saw . But then one only burns PAR ;D

I cant cut 12" logs on my chop saw band saw it is ! although I do have a chop saw dedicated for smaller firewood !
