Looks good. Sorry you seem to be on your own in the turning section. I do a bit, as necessary only. Re 38mm hole - easier to drill into the blank at the beginning and then fit a temporary plug or a spigot, for the turning?

Thanks Jacob I drilled the 38mm into the blanks before, and then used a jam-chuck when turning. It actually makes no difference when going into the end grain on hardwoods, hard, crap, lots of patience. The others were Imbuia blanks

............... never even seen a real lathe in the flesh let alone use one ;D Thanks Thallow A lathe is a fantastic piece of equipment. You can load a a very expensive blank on it, and turn it into very expensive firewood within minutes!

A lathe is a fantastic piece of equipment. You can load a a very expensive blank on it, and turn it into very expensive firewood within minutes! ;D There was an ad in our local paper recently, something like "For sale. Wood Lathe, set of gouges and chisels. Good condition. Also available; several bags of firewood". I think he probably gave up too soon! I don't think people waste enough wood; you have to, it's called 'practice'. Makes it easier to practice if the wood didn't cost a lot. Wood for knobs I made recently was from the log pile and it was only by knob 6 that they were coming out as intended. Just making firewood more interesting!

Jacob, I agree with you, lots of practice, lots of firewood. BUTThen out of nothing, comes a masterpiece. (well in my opinion ...) Thats why I found turning green very good, no cost, lots of free stock. If you keep your eyes open, even more free stock from the streets and neighbors. ;D ;D
