For years ive been using the off cuts from the haunches on a haunched tennon to make the wedges as they are the perfect size but its a real PITA messing with the small bits of timber . I was having a brain wave day and thought why not cut them in the haunch before i cut the haunch that way i can hold the whole thing in a vice . Bet i'm the last person to think of this .....

No Im one that shoves a piece of timber through the thicknesser to the correct thickness for the tenons, and with a wedge jig, I cut a box load of them.

I tried that way , maybe its because this way is less boring but it seems just as quick .

I'll try jfc's way - why didn't I think of it before! The thing I do differently is to cut out the haunchs before the shoulders i.e. when all the marks are still in place, but after having cut the cheeks. So that'd give me 3 sets of wedge, though 2 of them would be odd sizes. cheers Jacob

Not sure cutting three at a time will be as easy . I think the main thing is you end up with a pot full of wedges without going through the boring task of "cutting wedges " I cut my haunces as i join each window so it spreads the job out .
