Having just spent a couple of days fitting a double staircase in an old mill, we were just sweeping up and generally hanging around with that 'where's me cheque' look when the owner came up and said...
" love the staircase, so does the wife, but.... she really wanted fluted newels, you couldn't just put a couple of flutes on each face and perhaps chamfer the corners could you"
All TEN, I repeat TEN newels, all now fixed, with balusters and handrails.
I did it, but am now clinging for dear life to a bottle of red wine until the shaking stops.

How did you manage to flute the face facing the spindles?

Don't normally flute the face where the handrail comes in, didn't this time.
It was a bit stressful, I only had an old draper 1/4 inch router and a quick home made fence.
