I have had this length of 12" x 4" x 10' Douglas fir from the second week in January. Bought Kiln dried !! from a local hardwood supplier. I had four in total, all kept inside the house i was working in and the house is well insulated and bone dry. When cutting this particular length yesyerday i noticed it felt damp So i didnt resaw it i left it as seen in the photo. This is what awaited me this morning Has anyone ever experienced anything like this ? the damp patch on the floor has came from the timber and its really damp to the touch It was not like this when i bought it or i wouldnt have taken it. nor was there any black marks on it. Any thoughts? Cheers Gazza.

Mind you i cant even see my floor for saw dust ;D I wish it was just sawdust and shavings on mine. I own a Buzzard that started to nest on a stack of Beech doors in my workshop.

It could have been kiln dried once - then left out in the rain at the bottom of the pile, for quite a long time by the looks of it. Also it doesn't look much like douglas fir to me. Does it have the characteristic zig zag resinous end grain?
cheers Jacob

Hi Gazza, Were did you buy the timber from? McGreggors? I agree with Jacob that it may have been initially KD but has certainly taken on water and not just humidity. Did you test the centre of the board about 2' from an end for moisture content?
Philip.
