Hi guys & girls
a few weeks ago i bought a shop soiled Stanley Baileys block plane from e bay to day i started fettling it's sole nearly there phew thank god , bloody hard work, tomorrow i need to get some better grade of emery cloth before i polish up the sole with the scary class system to polish the sole nicely , anyway was pondering waxing the sole when finished any idea' s on this i found in the past using a candle can build up wax unevenly is there any good sprays on the market that will do the job better, or any other method I'm sure someone out there will tell me how .

Just been doing something similar over the weekend, well it was a wet day and not much else to do !
Took some wire wool and solvol metal polish to the soles on a few planes (were flat and in good condition already so no real work needed), and gave them a good polish with that, then a coat of ordinary paste wax and buffed off.
Think the wax must fill any tiny pores in the metal or something, but whatever, it worked a treat. Still using a scribble of candle as well for good measure.
Cheers, Paul (who must get out more !) ;D
