Client wants a 6300x1400mm Roof lantern. One concern I have is finishing the exposed ends to the double glazed units. Has anyone made any of these, that could help me with the design?

You have stepped double glazed units made and the end is dressed with lead . Stepped as in the outside one is longer than the inside one . I cant quite remember how they dressed mine with lead but it did look smart .

Thank you. So happens, just found out the my mum does the books for the local glazing company, so they are working with us on the design. He said thats how they do things anyway.

Keith, could you share the details on how you weather proofed the opening sash on your greenhouse please erm.... weather proof With it being a greenhouse I didn't bother to try to get them perfectly weather proof. They are weather resistant but with driving rain they do occasionally drip in. If you are still interested PM me your email address and I'll see if I can find a copy of the original article and photocopy the relevant part of the article. Keith

I'm getting a bit concerned about the weight of this thing, what sort of sections did you use if you don't mind sharing

Dont mind at all . The biggest one i have made was around 6-7m x 2m ish It was a long time ago but i still have the drawings somewhere . I use 100mm x 50mm PAR and shape that for my rafters . The load on the rafters is not the problem it's the load the rafters are putting on the wall plates ond what they are resting on . The one i did i made massive box beams made up to take it .

Did you have to mention the weight to anyone in order to calc the required box beams.
Whilst on latherns, does anyone know where you can option the chain actuated openers for side lights?

Yes , all the calculations where worked out by an architect . On smaller ones they normally just ask for the rafters to be doubled up .
