Highland Park malt for me. I'm also quite fond of Old Poultney - if you buy from the area its made its £16 a bottle for a 12 year single malt ( I only have a few bottles left ) This year for the first time I made some sloe gin - just a pint to experiment. Next year I intend a few gallon ;D ;D ;D ;D

What is "sloe gin" and how do you make it? Pick Sloes ( about the size of a large blackcurrant) prick each one with a darning needle. Fill a jar (not a bottle, 'cos you need to take berries out) with berries and cover with gin( some people prefer vodka, but then that would be slow vodka) Leave to soak ( ideally two or three months) but a month should be enoughish. Remove berries, drink. Careful, it's potent

We had a Brit here many years ago from BAT, doing an Internal Audit. He used to buy a packet of Safari Dried Fruit. (very good SA product!) He would then place the fruit in a jar, and fill it up with Brandy. Leave it for a few days, strain it off. The fruit then becomes a delicacy with a punch, and the 'syryp' is served over ice cream. It is one way of getting extremely pissed. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

forget what Dom says about p**cks Collect sloes (friut of Black thorn) clean any crap off them Bung in the freezer Fill frozen sloes into a jar ( I'm looking round for those old fashioned glass screw top sweet jars for next year). Lob in a handfull of sugar per bottle of gin. Top up the jar with Tesco cheapo own brand gin- I tried Gordons as well and could not tell the difference. Leave for 2 weeks top up the gin leave for at least 2 months Decant & drink I'm going to try Damsons next year too.

Kiddin aside Jim, I assume the freezing splits them and saves all that pricking. If so, brilliant.

Dom,
Correct!
I'd like to say it was my idea, but I'd be lying.

The best beer I ever tasted (that allows a fair scope) was a guest beer called "Summer of 69". Never seen it since, has anyone else? I've no idea which brewery.
After that its Glen Morangie Nectar D'or and rightly named. Only snag is its nearly half way to a LN block plane a bottle. There again I do have a LN block plane. ;D ;D
