now my first table is almost finished, ie it just needs the "finish" done on it, and we all know how long that takes. i have two more, somewhat smaller tables to build, and had thought to put a sort of fold out shelf just under the top. this would be just for a cup of tea and maybe a plate for a sandwich or biscuits ;D so i seem to remember that you used to be able to get a kind of hinge which i think was rather like a quadrant, and it was inset in the wood, and would hold the front, and give it enough strength to carry the load. if i remember correctly these were also used on butler's trays. so are they still available, and if so where??? or do i have to make a unit which includes lopers to ensure they draw neither bends the hinge, or breaks under the load. the shelf will be about 4inches high/wide, and would stick out about 3inches from the top. the top will be 14inches long and 12 wide. so should be quite stable even with the shelf out. or do i just abandon this idea and just put a proper drawer in?? paul
