actually jason i was wondering if you would be prepared to waste a whole sheet of mdf, and cut out the gaps for the various top parts, which would leave you spare bits for shelves etc, but would give you a large, no joint face frame as for the lights changing dom, do you really want to picture jason getting hot and cold ;D paul

Paul , i wasnt meaning the joints on the face i was talking about the end grain of the MDF and where it meets the face of the MDF . That joint will crack over time and is nearly always visable . Using the mitre lock jointer gets rid of that problem .
