Hi Nick,
I had a call from Joel Moskowitz of Tools for Working Wood in New York yesterday and he mentioned this as well. He's very saddened by it, but said it may be that they may continue at some stage, there's a sort of rescue attempt going on, but it may not be successful. He said that he has his own range of hand made rasps, which he freely admits aren't as good as the Auriou, but are still very good. He still hopes the Auriou returns though, as he rates them as the best out there, and sells them as well as his own range.
(not an advert, just info!)
Andy

Nick, yeah, saw that too having heard a rumour about it a few days ago. Very sad and not so good for carvers and such either as their carving tools seem to be very well regarded too. It seems success can be a real double-edged sword in the world of hand tool manufacture. Cheers, Alf

I heard that too, but was told today that a rescue for the company/take-over was very posible and it looks likly that they will continue just with a slightly smaller range. neil

Wonder if the overheads were out of control, and contributed to the very high prices charges.

I always wanted to try a couple of these, but have always been too rich for me. It's a shame that I never will
