I have two of these things, both Marples, 33mm wide, one cranked, that I bought a few years ago as they looked nice and have never used them.
Can anyone think of any reason to keep them or should I stick them on eBay?

For starters experience suggests that selling them will immediately result in Mr Murphy invoking his famous Law and presenting you with the very requirement for such a tool. How shallow or not is the sweep? (curve) I quite like to use a shallow paring gouge to pare pegs, plugs and dowels - no nasty corners to dig in where they shouldn't, and it gives a slightly rustic, tactile finish. But no, they're not exactly a must-have, are they? Shame, 'cos they look very cool.
Cheers, Alf

Alf, Very shallow, I would say somewhere around a 4 on the sheffield list. I forgot to mention that these things are huge, both around 24" long and one is cranked. Both by Marples and very shiny. I must admit that I am very wary of Mr Murphy, he and I go back a long way. I have a sneaking feeing that he may be keeping an eye on me. I do like them, they have a great heft to them and are great to bring out and impress non-woodworking folk with.

They were from a Govt Surplus stall in Newtown (Montgomeryshire as it was then) market, so I've always presumed they were something to do with military wooden wagons or something. I've never used them and they are a bit rusty, but Murphys law stops me getting rid of them, along with a vast array of other old iron and junk. cheers Jacob

Left them on the bench and keep picking them up and ooh, feeling them. They're verrry nice. I think I may have to keep them.
